1. Journal Entry by Clarisse McCellan
Dear Diary, it’s
Clarisse again.
Today has been
a rather fascinating day. The thoughts and ideas in my mind seem to be growing
every second. I can’t stop thinking about everything from, why people don’t
read books anymore to my handsome neighbor.
Every day I
see him board the train after his work and I can’t help but thinking how a
delightful man like him could burn such precious books. I have been meaning to
summon up my courage and approach him. Well, today was the day! My first
impression of him is that he is arrogant or maybe he had a hard day at work or
maybe he was tired. My oh my, all these thoughts in my mind are tricking my hand
on what to write!
He’s a fireman
those that burn books unlike the traditional firemen who put out fires. Montag
is his name, Guy Montag. His mysteriousness intrigues me. Believe it or not, he
was extremely pleasant to me unlike everyone else I try to make conversation
with. Although we only spoke for what seemed like seconds in my mind, he makes
me feel comfortable and as if I've known him by whole life.
I really do
hope I catch him on the train tomorrow! I would love to know what is going on
in his mind so I can share with him what’s going on in mind! I have to go now.
Lots of love,
Clarisse.
2. Symbols
Fire symbolizes
destruction. Books are being burnt by fireman with the help of fire. Fire also
symbolizes the new life with a new beginning, a life where people do not
question the past.
Phoenix represents
the renewal process of life that exists after death. The phoenix is rather important
as firemen proudly wear their uniform that consists of the phoenix as a logo.
Hearth and
Salamander is also a symbol from the novel Fahrenheit 451. The hearth is a
fireplace and also symbolizes home as well as fire. The salamander symbolizes
fire. From a myth, it claims that a salamander could live in fire and not at
all be hurt. It is important as Montag named his truck after the Salamander.

Snap Out of It by the Arctic Monkeys
Angels by The XX
Youth by Daughter
4. Cartoon Characters that represent characters from novel
Fireman Sam represents Montag. Both of them are firemen. This shows contrast of traditional fireman and a
futuristic fireman. A similar personality that they both have is that they are both passionate. Montag and Fireman Sam are passionate about their jobs, truly enjoys working and in conclusion do your jobs exceedingly well!
Disney's Chicken Little represents Clarisse McCellan. This is because there is a point in the movie as well as the novel where both characters get alienate from society. Both Chicken and Chicken Little are very intelligent and have different thoughts/opinions leading them to alienation.
Timmy Turner from Nickelodeon's Fairly OddParents represents Mildred. This is because both of them get to escape reality. Whilst Timmy escapes by his wish-granting fairies, Mildred escapes by drugs, television and her seashell headphones.
5. A quick stickynote from Montag to
Mildred
Stay safe. I
am off to work. Do make sure that all the books are kept in a safe place. Don’t
want the firemen to find out that we are in possession of them, can’t ruin my
reputation!
PS. I have
stored your pills away from your reach for the better. Don’t be mad. It is for
your own good. And your seashell headphones fell onto the floor last night
whilst you were sleeping so I help put them on top of your cabinet.
Love you.
Montag.
